What better way to kick off a new month than by trying out a new DFS site? You might not have heard much about internet giant Yahoo’s offering, but like most things DFS, it’s got a big following across the pond.
But what exactly does this site bring to the table? Aren’t there already enough DFS sites to choose from? We give you our verdict in this comprehensive review.
What’s Yahoo Daily Fantasy got up its sleeve?
Prior to launching its daily fantasy site in the middle of 2015, Yahoo actually operated a season-long service in the US. So, while Yahoo might not be the first name you’d associate with DFS, they’ve certainly got experience in the area.
Also, as you’d expect from such a large company, Yahoo Daily Fantasy is a very slick affair. The interface is really something to behold, even compared to the biggest player in the game—DraftKings.
You can be sure of this site’s trustworthiness, too, which is hugely important in the somewhat unstable arena of DFS.
With Fanaments, Mondogoal and FanDuel all either closing or exiting the UK market within the last 12 months, it’s crucial to pick a DFS site that’s going to be able to reward you with its reliability.
What sports can I play?
So, let’s get down to the nitty gritty: a daily fantasy site is never going to be worth your time if if it doesn’t have a decent selection of sports to choose from. Thankfully, Yahoo Daily Fantasy isn’t lacking in this department. You’ve got the choice of:
- American football
- Ice Hockey
While the site’s lacking some of the more uncommon sports, such as NASCAR, we’re sure that this selection will be enough to satisfy most sports fans, particularly those of you who’ve got an affinity for all things American.
Looking to the future, however, it would be nice to see Yahoo give us Brits some attention by introducing cricket or tennis. We think this could really help Yahoo Daily Fantasy to stand apart from its rivals.
As well as its solid selection of sports, Yahoo Daily Fantasy also boasts an impressive variety of contests to choose from. If you’re into football, for instance, you’ve got the opportunity to enter contests in the Premier League, La Liga, and MLS.
The American sports are well-represented too, with NFL, MLB, NHL and NBA all on offer.
There are a few different types of contest you should aim to know about before you enter. These are roughly comparable to many oher DFS
Picking a contest couldn’t be simpler, and you’ll be pleased to know that there’s a broad range of entry prices to suit all budgets. To enter, you simply make a deposit, then pick your preferred contest from the list!
Picking your team
When picking your team you’ll be restricted to a £200 wage budget.
Yahoo helpfully gives the opportunity to view detailed player stats, and you can swap your players around right up until the last minute. Take a look at the pictures below for a good idea of what to expect.
This is where Yahoo’s otherwise excellent site starts to let itself down—there just simply aren’t any key promotions to speak of! While admittedly such promotions seem to be thin on the ground across all the DFS sites at the moment, to not even offer a welcome bonus just seems a bit stingy.
Thankfully, Yahoo’s internationally recognisable name seems to have brought a decent crowd of players to the site, but it surely can’t rest on its laurels for too long. If you’re reading this, Yahoo, we’d love to see some promotions please!
Is it worth Yahoo-ing about?
Despite Yahoo’s slick interface, there’s not really a lot that sets it apart from the competition. The lack of welcome bonuses do little to attract new players, but on the other hand the site does have a solid contingent of fans.
So, Yahoo Daily Fantasy’s a bit of a weird one. It’s got a great interface, more football than you can shake a stick at, and a nice selection of American sports. Despite this, however, we’d struggle to really recommend this site over the other big name in DFS you can play in the UK—DraftKings.
They think it’s all over…
